(Review) Minecraft’s “Spicy TNT” Pringles

Did you know that 2023 saw another Minecraft release? Sure, it wasn’t a game but it was something rather unexpected: a collaboration with Pringles. The snack food team-up of brands gave us a rather…unique flavor of Pringles with the release of “Suspicious Stew”. You can read my review of those (here). Today, I am here to talk about the follow up flavor which released in 2024: “Spicy TNT” flavor.

I discovered these chips hanging out on the end-cap of an unrelated aisle at my local Target store. I was looking for good ol’ original  flavored Pringles when I reached for a similarly colored red canister. Suddenly,  I realized that Steve from Minecraft was glaring back at me with his dead yet expressive eyes, and that these were no ordinary Pringles. Here we go again! In the name of science and good blogsmanship, I quickly put 2 canisters of these Pringles in my basket and got home as quickly as I could to try these out.

If you didn’t read my review about the previous flavor of Minecraft chip, here’s some spoilers for you: They were just ok, they got a “C” on the review scale. Even though I was excited for these new Pringles, I didn’t exactly have the highest of hopes based on my first experience. Upon my first bite of Spicy TNT Pringle, I was pleasantly surprised to find out what they tasted like. When it comes to foods that are named after a concept rather than a flavor element, there’s always going to be a guessing game on what exactly you’re tasting. These chips had me guessing, but they remained delicious while I was trying to nail down the flavors involved.

The “spice” in Spicy TNT is the first flavor that you’ll notice, providing a very mild Jalapeno type of spice. This spice was nice in flavor but also disappeared rather quickly which is nice in my opinion. Beyond the spice, you’re also met with something sort of cheese-like in flavor, but specifically a fake cheese. The cheese element of these reminded me of Nacho cheese, but the kind that's orange and of mysterious origin. Then, it hit me “OH WAIT!” I said to myself once I figured out what they were going for: Nacho Cheese + Jalapeno = Jalapeno Poppers! I was eating Jalapeno Popper flavored Pringles!

I was very excited to figure out what I think they were going for with this flavor, but there was still more nuance that I need to describe to you. It gets even better than Jalapeno Poppers. The aftertaste of these Pringles were a dead ringer for French Fries from Wendy’s, but the “yellow” era of Wendy’s fries from 20 some-odd years ago. There was a nice salt and pepper flavor, but the flavor of good ‘ol fried ‘tater was still so prominently featured underneath. This was a real nice surprise to me, as Original flavored Pringles don’t have the strongest Potato flavor in my opinion.

I was pleasantly surprised by all aspects of these Pringles, and I recommend them to anyone who’s looking for a little something different. Don’t be intimidated by the packaging, the spice is really very mild and like I said, it doesn’t linger. I am giving these Pringles an official rating of “A”.
